Story 2: Can We Make Our Dreams Come True?

Most dreams don’t come true. Not because people aren’t worthy of their dreams but because it is hard to accomplish big dreams. You can’t take it easy and accomplish great things. It takes hard work to make dreams come true.

You can’t make your dreams come true by being passive. You can’t make your dreams come true by being patient. You can’t make your dreams come true by listening to others who don’t believe in your dream. You can only make your dreams come true with hard work.

That’s the part that people don’t want to hear. They want to believe that it is connections that lead to success. They want to believe that you must be born with great talent to be successful. They will tell you that others who are successful or lucky, got all the breaks, had the right parents, had more money, etc. etc.

The truth is no one makes their dreams come true, no one reaches success without hard work. It doesn’t matter the field or the specialty, the people who are successful at their craft are the people who put in the hard work.

There is no moral obligation to be successful. It is not a requirement of anyone to work hard to be considered a good person. If you want to lay back and be cool that’s perfectly fine. But if you want success, if you want your dreams to come true, you must deal with the truth and the truth is you must work hard just like everyone before and after you.

One thing all successful people have in common is hard work. Other people don’t want to believe this. They will say that person is lucky, that person gets the breaks. That’s just an excuse to let themselves off the hook – just a reason to tell themselves why they can’t be successful.

You don’t have to reach for the top. You don’t have to achieve at the highest levels. But if you do want to be on top and at the highest levels, you must work.

If your dreams are not coming true it’s because you are not making the right decisions. You are not pushing yourself to learn. Once you know what you want, you can determine a path to get it. You can begin to ask others, you can do research, you can try and fail. You can begin to push yourself in the direction of your dream.

It starts with knowing what you want. Then determining a path to get there. Then doing the hard work.

You must take an aggressive posture. You must wake up every day knowing what you want and doing the things that will help you get it.

It won’t happen overnight. It will happen step by step. The trick is to stay focused. Stay focused on getting better, not getting to the end. Ask yourself each day. “Am I better today than yesterday? Am I putting in the hard work to improve each day?”

If the answer is “yes” then soon you will see change and you will see improvement and growth. It is a step-by-step process to stay focused and each day get up working to get just a little bit better. One day you’ll look up and you’ll be there. You would have written that book, ran that marathon, gave that speech. You would have completed your goal, made your dream come true and reach your own personal success.

It starts with knowing what you want, developing a path to get there, and doing the hard work.

So, if you need encouragement, let this be your encouragement.

It doesn’t matter if you are average or if you can’t do something, you can learn, you can grow. One of the greatest gifts we have as humans is that we can change. We can determine what skills we need; we can see where we may have skill gaps and we can improve; we can get better. We can model the behavior of other successful people.

We can’t be patient. We can’t blame others and give ourselves excuses. We can’t fall for the okey doke, thinking things will just work even if we don’t.

We can see the proof. We can see how things worked out for others. We can get started today working toward our dreams.

Nothing is impossible. Everything is within reach. If we can conceive it and believe it we really can have it. We must do the hard work. But we can make our dreams come true.
